Requests for Additional Information are now digital

Use your Attachments Dashboard to access notifications about documents needed to process your claim.

In June, Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) began to notify you through your Attachments Dashboard on Availity.com* when medical records, itemized bills, or other documents are required to process our Commercial members’ claims. You will no longer have to wait for a mailed letter or remittance advice when we need documents to process most claims. This means faster claims processing for you.

When you registered to use the Medical Attachments application through Availity Essentials, you also registered to receive digital notifications through that application. This makes it possible for Anthem to notify you digitally when we need documents to process your claim.

Enabling more efficient processes

Each morning, you will receive Digital RFAI notifications in your Attachments Dashboard inbox for claims we are unable to process because we need supporting documentation. 

Here are just a few benefits of the Digital RFAI notification process:

Through this efficient process, we are processing claims 50% faster than through the outdated method of mailing letters and receiving attachments through non-digital methods.1

How to access notifications and submit requested documents:

  1. Check your Medical Attachments registration to ensure all of your billing NPIs are registered correctly.
  2. Ensure your team members have the Medical Attachment and Claims Status role assignments to allow them to access the Attachments Dashboard.
  3. Log onto Availity.com and from the Claims & Payments tab, select Attachments-New.
  4. All Digital RFAI notifications will be identified by the prefix RFAI.
  5. Select the claim, upload the requested documents, and press submit.

If you are using the PWK process to submit attachments, you can continue to use that process, but you may still receive Digital RFAI notifications in your dashboard if:

  • You didn’t send us the correct document. 
  • We need additional documents. 
  • The PWK attachment wasn’t received within seven days.
