Mandatory implementation and training guide for EVV

Electronic visit verification (EVV) is a federally mandated telephone and computer-based application program that electronically verifies in-home service visits. California was required to implement EVV for home healthcare services (HHCS) as of January 1, 2023. Implementation of EVV is only required for HHCS delivered in a member's home, including visits that begin in the community and end in the home (or vice versa).

California contracted with Sandata Technologies to provide a state-sponsored EVV system (CalEVV). However, you have the option to implement EVV requirements using an alternate EVV system (AltEVV). Whether your organization chooses to use CalEVV or AltEVV, you are required to register in the EVV self-registration website and must participate in state-sponsored training by Sandata.

In accordance with DHCS’ All Plan Letter, as of October 19, 2022, your organization is required to:

  1. Self-register in CalEVV.
  2. Complete mandatory aggregator training from Sandata.
  3. Attest that you have completed these two steps by sending your completion email from Sandata to CalAIM@anthem.com.

If your organization has already been registered in CalEVV, please forward the completion email you received from Sandata when you initially completed the mandatory aggregator training. For further information, please refer to the attached documents and/or access the recording of the training below:

We appreciate your compliance with this requirement.
