Weight Assessment and Counseling for Nutrition and Physical Activity for Children/Adolescents (WCC)

HEDIS® (Healthcare Effectiveness Data Information Set) is a widely used set of performance measures developed and maintained by NCQA. These are used to drive improvement efforts surrounding best practices.

This HEDIS measure looks at the percentage of members ages 3 to 17 years who had an outpatient visit with a PCPs or OB/GYN and who had evidence of the following during the measurement year:

  • BMI percentile documentation*
  • Counseling for nutrition
  • Counseling for physical activity

*Because BMI norms for youth vary with age and gender, this measure evaluates whether BMI percentile is assessed rather than an absolute BMI value.
