Transition of the Indiana SBIRT PIP to the PQIP framework for 2025

We are pleased to inform you of the upcoming transition of the Indiana Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Performance Improvement Project (PIP) to the Provider Quality Incentive Program (PQIP) Essentials framework starting in 2025.

Transition overview:

  • SBIRT PIP retirement: The retirement of the SBIRT PIP marks a strategic shift towards a more integrated quality improvement framework.
  • Incorporation into PQIP: SBIRT will be a performance measure under PQIP and PQIP essentials as part of our efforts to streamline quality improvement initiatives."

What does this mean for care providers?

  • Performance focus: Care providers will now participate in SBIRT activities as a part of the broader PQIP and PQIP essentials programs, focusing on delivering quality patient interventions in substance use screening and treatment referrals.
  • Enhanced measurement strategies: Integrating into PQIP will allow more robust tracking of performance outcomes and offer incentives aligned with evidence‑based practice improvements.
  • Continued support and resources: We will provide resources and training materials for smooth adaptation to the new framework, with support teams ready for any questions or concerns.

Next steps:

  • Training and information sessions: Scheduled sessions will be conducted to guide providers through the specific requirements and benefits of including SBIRT as a performance measure under PQIP. Details on [dates] and registration will be disseminated soon.
  • Performance tracking: Providers should continue engaging in SBIRT initiatives and maintain necessary records for PQIP evaluation.
