Colorado-required collection of diversity and cultural competency training

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and HMO Colorado (Anthem) are required to obtain data on provider and front office staff that have completed culturally sensitive and anti-bias training in 2022, to remain in compliance with Regulation 4-2-80.

Anthem has developed two options to collect the data. Your office can fill out the survey or respond via the attached spreadsheet.

Anthem has developed a survey through Check Market® at https://bit.ly/40FAl27 to obtain the answers to questions listed below or through the QR code at the end of this communication. This survey needs to be completed by your providers and/or office staff and returned to us by
June 9, 2023:

  • Practice name
  • Number of providers working in your office:
    • Number of providers that completed the training
  • Number of front office staff:
    • Number of front office staff that completed training
  • Type of training:
    • Example: online-seminar or webinar, training developed by your organization
  • Course duration
  • Provider’s course completion date (If the provider completion dates are different for each provider, please indicate the latest/last training completion date.)
  • Certificate or CME awarded (Y/N)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI)

If you choose to return the excel file, please fill out and return your responses to our mailbox: Coloradocontracting@anthem.com. In the email subject line, add 2022 Cultural Competency.

For ongoing training, Anthem offers eLearning experiences or access Anthem’s on-demand provider training hub Provider Education and Training - Anthem Blue Cross (on24.com) and select the My Diverse Patients icon. You can also type My Diverse Patients into your browser. The current continuing medical education (CME) course My Inclusive Practice - Improving Care for LGBTQIA+ Patients at mydiversepatients.com is offered to network providers and office staff.

Availity Essentials* added the fields below to satisfy Regulation 4-2-80 adopted by the Division of Insurance of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.

Gender and disability fields added to type 1 provider information in provider data management

When updating a type 1 provider's (individual providers/practitioners) general information in the Provider Data Management (PDM) application, you can now enter information in the following newly added fields.

  • Gender at birth – When you select the check box for this field, select the provider's gender at birth in the field below the check box.
  • Provider gender identity – When you select the check box for this field, select the provider's gender identity in the field below the check box. You can select multiple values in this field.
  • Provider sexual orientation – When you select the check box for this field, select the provider's sexual orientation in the field below the check box. You can select multiple values in this field.
  • Provider disability – When you select the check box for this field, select Yes or No for the question below the check box.

The demographic data will be used to improve racial health equity, reduce health disparities for covered persons who experience higher rates of health disparities and inequities, and to provide aggregate information about the diversity of the providers in our network. This reporting will not include any personal identifiable information as it is reported in the aggregate.
