New Substance Use Resource Center available

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio is providing access to the recently launched Substance Use Resource Center to help individuals impacted by substance use find appropriate and quality care locally. This is the newest addition to an array of services being delivered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies to fight the substance use epidemic in our local communities and drive positive health outcomes for the Health of America.

Individuals seeking treatment for substance use will be able to contact the Substance Use Resource Center and be connected to appropriate, quality-based resources in their local community. These resources will include facilities and providers that have been awarded with a Blue Distinction® Designation for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery, including providers offering medication-assisted therapy. Blue Distinction Centers® are nationally designated facilities that demonstrate a commitment to delivering evidence-based care that improves patient safety and health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the community and leading accreditation and quality organizations.

Our newest program for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery was not only informed by our members and BCBS companies, but others in the community as well. We worked with organizations like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), National Quality Forum (NQF) and others (e.g., representatives from the correctional system, public health organizations, emergency room physicians, former substance users in recovery).

We hope you’ll share this information with your patients as you deem appropriate. The Substance Use Resource Center can be reached by calling 833-959-HELP (4357) or by clicking this web link.
