Anthem Medicaid responds to those affected by floods in eastern Kentucky

On July 29, 2022, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid (Anthem) in Kentucky announced revised medical and pharmacy guidelines to help those impacted by the recent floods in eastern Kentucky in the following 14 counties and cities: Perry, Floyd, Breathitt, Clay, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Johnson, Knott, Pike, Martin, Magoffin, Owsley and Wolfe and the cities of Beattyville, Paintsville, and Salyersville.  

 

These emergency-based guidelines are effective from Thursday, July 28, 2022, through and including Friday, August 12, 2022, for impacted members in Kentucky.

 

These guidelines apply to Anthem enrollees.

 

Pharmacy

If an enrollee has lost their prescription medication due to recent flooding, emergency prescriptions are covered. Please contact the nearest available pharmacy or MedImpact at 800-210-7628 for assistance.  

 

Prior authorizations and medical necessity reviews

Prior authorization will be waived for physical and behavioral health, inpatient and outpatient requests, and participating and out of network requests, excluding pharmacy, for two weeks starting July 28, 2022, though August 12, 2022, for enrollees residing in the effected counties and cities as follows: Perry County, Floyd County, Breathitt County, Clay County, Lee County, Leslie County, Letcher County, Johnson County, Knott County, Pike County, Martin County, Magoffin County, Owsley County, Wolfe County, and the cities of Beattyville, Paintsville, and Salyersville.

DME

Impacted enrollees can request replacement of durable medical equipment (DME) and supplies.

 

Out-of-network providers

Enrollees can access out-of-network providers if an in-network provider is unavailable due to the state of emergency or if the member is out of the area due to displacement.

 

Replacement of eyeglasses/contact lenses

Enrollees residing in the affected areas can contact EyeQuest* for replacement of lost eyeglasses/contact lenses displaced by the flooding. Please contact the nearest available optician/optometrist or contact EyeQuest at 855-343-7405 for assistance.
