State Uniform Preferred Drug List Notice
The Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) has established a Statewide Uniform Preferred Drug List (SUPDL) to streamline the prescription drug benefit across fee-for-service (FFS) and the managed care entities (MCEs). Beginning July 5, 2023, for medications listed in the drug classes on the FFS preferred drug list (PDL), all MCEs will maintain the same preferred and nonpreferred drug status, clinical criteria requirements, and format for prior authorization (PA) submission as the FFS program.
The goal of this initiative is to improve provider and member experience through enhanced and simplified medication access across all IHCP prescription drug benefit plans, while minimizing overall prescription drug expenditures. The SUPDL will decrease administrative burden related to member movement across plans and minimize the need for providers to navigate six unique formularies and criteria requirements. Additionally, the SUPDL will provide cost-savings for IHCP through the added supplemental rebate potential gained by having the same preferred products across all plans. For additional information related to the State Medicaid program rebate process, please refer to bulletin, BT202270.
You will have 90 days after the July 5, 2023, SUPDL implementation date to transition your member to one of the SUPDL preferred products. If you feel it is medically necessary for the member to remain on a nonpreferred product, please submit a prior authorization request.
For a list of preferred products, please reference the Preferred Drug List under the Preferred Products tab on the Indiana Medicaid Optum Rx website accessible from the Pharmacy Services page at in.gov/medicaid/providers.
