Best practices for managing provider referrals in the Care Central referrals dashboard

Referral dashboard overview

The Care Central referral dashboard allows Home and Community‑Based Services (HCBS) waiver providers to view referrals that match their approved services. In response to care provider feedback, Anthem has enhanced the platform to make managing HCBS referrals more efficient.

To access Care Central, HCBS providers must enter their payer‑assigned provider ID number (Medicaid ID) on the Manage My Organization page in Availity Essentials. To do this, log in to https://Availity.com, then go to Help and Training > Find Help > Search, and add your provider identifiers.

To access Care Central in Availity Essentials:

  1. Go to Payer Spaces.
  2. Select the Anthem tile.
  3. Select Care Central.

Once on the Care Central landing page, choose your details from the drop‑down menus and select Next to open the dashboard.

From the Care Central dashboard:

  • View and respond to referrals by navigating to the Referrals tab, then selecting the Incoming tab.
  • Track the status of your referrals: confirmation needed, confirmed, declined, or closed.
