Medical practices: Keeping something from us?

Do you use nurse practitioners or physician assistants in your practice? These provider types are underutilized resources that benefit the practices and communities they serve.

If your medical practice includes nurse practitioners or physician assistants, you should be reporting them to us so we can add them to your Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) agreement as providers in your group:

  • Go to anthem.com/ca to initiate the digital enrollment application process to add nurse practitioners and physician assistants to your Anthem practice.
  • Once successfully added to your agreement, nurse practitioners and physician assistants should bill for services they render to Anthem members.
  • Submit claims under the rendering practitioner’s own name and NPI.
  • These providers will not display in our online provider directory, Find Care.

Note: Nurse practitioners and physician assistants can treat Anthem members under a contracted physician practice. However, they cannot practice independently under their own Anthem contract (agreement) at this time.

Get started now. The digital enrollment application has been designed to speed up the enrollment process, allow providers to submit data at one time, and obtain real-time updates on the status of an application. Access it through Availity Essentials, Anthem’s secure web-based provider website.

To use the digital enrollment application, ensure your provider data on Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH) is current and in a complete or re-attested status. Then log into Availity and use the following navigation: Choose your state > Payer Spaces > Provider Enrollment.
