CMS approves licensed professional clinical counselor addition into tribal federally qualified health centers
Effective January 1, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved State Plan Amendment 23-0037, which allows the Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS) to add licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCCs) as a billable practitioner at tribal federally qualified health centers (FQHCs). A new billing code has been introduced for LPCC services to be provided at tribal FQHCs. The mental health visits rendered by LPCCs will be reimbursable at the all-inclusive rate.
For ready reference, the billing code is provided as follows:
Revenue code |
Procedure code and modifier |
Description |
0561 |
T1015 HO |
Mental Health Visit — LPCC |
This initiative will expand the service provider workforce within tribal FQHCs and improve the accessibility of mental health professionals.
